Omar Sails & Rigging - Our History

Omar Sailmakers in New Bern, North Carolina, was founded in 1978 when Paul and Sandy Lockwood decided to drop anchor in Beaufort and establish a sail making venture. They encountered our original flagship while cruising in their Hereshoff "P" class yacht, ENDLESS SUMMER.

Response for the services was overwhelming and they were embraced by the community. Paul and Sandy retired and in 2013, Craig Beavers took over the business and moved it to New Bern where he has continued the successful sail making tradition.

Like many members of this community, Craig Beavers came here with the US Marines. It was a life that kept him close to the sea and afforded him the opportunity to sail wherever he was stationed. The "dream job he never knew existed" (sail making), came later in life. And through continuing education and computer design, he is bringing the latest in sail design and production to our local community.
